Overview
Registered in 2000, 'Little Chickadee' is a self-pollinated seedling of *Hosta* 'Little Streaker'. This miniature cultivar is distinguished by its upright, slow-growing habit and medium green leaves with subtle, streaked variegation and slightly rippled margins. The foliage is slightly shiny on the upper surface and very shiny beneath, with a tapered leaf base.
In the Garden
Reaching a mature clump diameter of 12 inches (30.5 cm) and height of 5 inches (12.7 cm), 'Little Chickadee' is well-suited for shaded borders, rock gardens, or troughs. Its compact size and slow growth make it an excellent candidate for container cultivation. Pair with other miniature hostas, small ferns, or fine-textured groundcovers such as *Viola* species to create scale-appropriate compositions.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, applying a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring. As with most hostas, protect from slugs and deer, which may damage the foliage.
