Overview
Registered in 2002 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Lakeside Shore Master', 'Lakeside Tycoon' is a large, fast-growing cultivar notable for its deep blue-green, broadly ovate leaves with flat margins and a dull surface on both sides. The substantial foliage, reaching 11 inches in length and 9 inches in width, forms a dense, mound-like clump that distinguishes it from its parent.
In the Garden
'Lakeside Tycoon' performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-green hostas, and reaches a mature diameter of 30 inches (76.2 cm) with a height of 15 inches (38.1 cm). Its large size and rapid growth make it suitable as a specimen plant in shaded borders or as a groundcover beneath deciduous trees. Companion plants such as ferns, *Heuchera*, or *Astilbe* provide textural contrast, while the blue-green foliage pairs well with yellow- or gold-leaved hostas.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage the foliage, so monitoring and protective measures are advisable in areas where these pests are prevalent.
