Overview
Registered in 2002 by P. & J. Ruh, this large blue-green hosta is a sport of *Hosta* 'Blue Moon'. It is distinguished by its intensely cupped, heavily corrugated, nearly round leaves that carry a glaucous bloom on the undersides, with slightly rippled margins and a subtle twist along the blade. The foliage emerges and holds a deep blue-green color, and the upright plant habit supports a substantial clump.
In the Garden
'Blue Splendor' performs best in partial to full shade, where its blue coloration is most pronounced. Mature clumps reach approximately 26 inches (66 cm) in height and 30 inches (76 cm) in diameter, making it suitable for mid-border or as a specimen in shaded beds. Its large, textured leaves pair well with finer-textured shade perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera*.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods to maintain leaf quality; apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. Slugs may damage the foliage, and deer are known to browse hostas in typical hosta-growing zones.
