Overview

Registered in 2002 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Simply Sharon', 'Bigga Luigi' is a large, fast-growing cultivar distinguished by its intensely corrugated, broadly ovate leaves of medium blue-green with a prominent glaucous bloom on both surfaces. The leaf blade dimensions—9.5 inches (24.1 cm) in both length and width—combined with 16 to 18 vein pairs and a moderately cupped form, give the plant a substantial, textured appearance that reflects its *sieboldiana* background.

In the Garden

'Bigga Luigi' forms a mound 28 inches (71.1 cm) tall and 20 inches (50.8 cm) in diameter, with scapes rising 24 to 28 inches (61.0 to 71.1 cm) above the foliage. It performs best in partial to full shade, where its blue-green foliage retains its color, and is suitable for typical hosta-growing zones. The plant's rapid growth rate and large size make it effective as a groundcover or specimen in shaded borders; it pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. While 'Bigga Luigi' is not notably resistant to slugs or deer, its thick, corrugated leaves offer some physical deterrence compared to thinner-leaved cultivars.
