Overview

Registered in 2006 by the Lakeside hybridizing program, *Hosta* 'Lakeside Midnight Miss' is a medium-sized, fast-growing cultivar resulting from a cross between *H.* 'Lakeside Black Mama' and *H.* 'Lakeside Looking Glass'. It is visually distinctive for its ovate, dark green leaves with slightly rippled margins, a very shiny upper surface, and a moderately wavy leaf texture.

In the Garden

This cultivar forms a dense, mound-like clump reaching approximately 41 inches (104 cm) in diameter and 17 inches (43 cm) in height. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for hostas, and its glossy foliage provides contrast when paired with finer-textured shade perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera*. Its medium size makes it suitable for border fronts or woodland garden settings, though it is not typically recommended for container culture due to its mature spread.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, monitor for slug and deer damage, which can disfigure the shiny leaves.
