Overview
Registered in 1997 by Mary Chastain of Lakeside Acres, this medium-sized cultivar is a hybrid of *Hosta yingeri*. It is distinguished by its heavily textured, dark green leaves with slightly rippled margins and a very shiny, almost mirror-like surface on both the upper and lower sides.
In the Garden
Forming a dense, fast-growing mound 24 inches (61 cm) in diameter and 10 inches (25.4 cm) tall, 'Lakeside Looking Glass' is suitable for partial to full shade in typical hosta-growing zones. The 8-inch (20.3 cm) long by 5.5-inch (14 cm) wide leaves with five vein pairs create a bold textural contrast when planted near fine-leaved perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera*. Its upright scapes, reaching 22 to 26 inches (55.9 to 66 cm), bear lavender flowers in midsummer.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor and manage accordingly.
