Year registered2003
Section classII-2

Overview

Registered in 2003 by Mary Chastain of Lakeside Acres, this large blue-green hosta is a seedling of *Hosta* 'Lakeside Blue Jeans' with unknown pollen parent. It is distinguished by its intensely blue leaf margins, deeply cupped and corrugated nearly round leaves, and a dull surface on both sides.

In the Garden

*Hosta* 'Lakeside Color Blue' forms a moderate-growing clump reaching 15 inches (38 cm) in height and 24 inches (61 cm) in diameter, with upright foliage. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and is suitable for mid-border positions or as a specimen in woodland gardens. Its large, textured leaves pair well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in areas with high pest pressure.
