Overview
Registered in 2003, 'Nate the Great' is a large hosta cultivar derived from a cross between *Hosta nigrescens* and *H. 'Tokudama Aureonebulosa'*. It is distinguished by its nearly round, deeply cupped, and moderately corrugated leaves of medium blue-green, which bear a glaucous bloom on both surfaces and flat margins.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms an upright clump reaching 22 inches (55.9 cm) in height and 40 inches (101.6 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of hosta-growing zones, where its blue-green foliage and tall scapes are most pronounced. The upright habit and substantial leaf texture make it suitable for mid-border positions or as a specimen plant in shaded beds.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as with most large-leaved hostas.
