Overview
Registered in 1995 by an unknown breeder, 'Lakeside Blue Jeans' is a large hosta cultivar distinguished by its intensely blue-green foliage and substantial leaf dimensions. The leaves are smooth-margined, cordate at the base, and measure up to 13 inches (33.0 cm) long by 9 inches (22.9 cm) wide, with 17 pairs of veins and a dull finish on both surfaces.
In the Garden
This cultivar reaches a mature spread of 64 inches (162.6 cm) and a height of 24 inches (61.0 cm), with a semi-upright growth habit and moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and its blue-green leaves pair well with yellow- or gold-foliaged companions such as *Hosta* 'Sum and Substance' or ferns. The blue-green scapes, ranging from 32 to 46 inches (81.3 to 116.8 cm) high, carry flowers that complement the foliage.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many large-leaved hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
