Overview

Registered in 2014, *Hosta* 'KL's Choice' is a large sport of *H.* 'Salute' (pollen parent unknown) distinguished by its blue-green leaves with extremely narrow cream margins and white-backed undersides. The leaf surface carries a powdery glaucous bloom, and the deep veins contrast markedly with the dull, nearly unnoticeable edge.

In the Garden

'KL's Choice' forms an upright mound reaching 18 inches (45.7 cm) in height and 40 inches (101.6 cm) in diameter, with scapes rising 30 to 36 inches (76.2 to 91.4 cm). It performs best in partial to full shade, where the blue-green coloration remains most intense, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its moderate growth rate and substantial size make it suitable as a specimen or in the middle to back of a border.

Care Notes

Water regularly during dry spells, particularly in the first growing season, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage, though the glaucous leaf surface may offer slight resistance to feeding.
