Overview
Registered in 2004, 'Journey's End' is a giant sport distinguished by its large, broadly ovate leaves of blue-green with wide, dark green margins that exhibit slight rippling. The leaf surface is dull on top with a glaucous bloom underneath, and the yellow leaf center transitions to a dark green border measuring 1 to 3 inches (2.5 to 7.6 cm) wide.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms a substantial mound 24 inches (61 cm) tall and 52 inches (132 cm) in diameter, making it suitable for use as a specimen or in the middle to back of a shaded border. It performs best in partial to full shade, where its blue-green foliage and dark green margins develop optimal coloration. The large leaf size and dense habit pair well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials that contrast in texture.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as the large leaves are susceptible to damage from both pests.
