Overview
Registered in 2004, 'Viva Las Vegas' is a giant hosta cultivar resulting from a cross between *Hosta* 'Christmas Tree Gala' and *Hosta nigrescens* 'Elatior'. It is visually distinctive for its bright white leaf centers bordered by dark green margins, creating a starburst pattern that extends from the petiole into the blade.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms a mound-like clump reaching 44 inches (111.8 cm) in diameter and 22 inches (55.9 cm) in height, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of hosta-growing zones, where its large, broadly ovate leaves with cordate bases and lightly wavy margins can develop fully. The substantial foliage pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade perennials that complement its bold texture and variegation.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, applying a balanced fertilizer in early spring as shoots emerge. As with many large-leaved hostas, slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed through appropriate barriers or deterrents.
