Overview
Registered in 2006, *Hosta* 'Jotunheim' is a giant hybrid between *H. 'Versailles Blue'* and *H. 'Tokudama Flavocircinalis'*. This cultivar is distinguished by its intensely silvery-blue leaves with a glaucous bloom on both surfaces, heavily corrugated texture, and nearly round leaf shape with slightly rippled margins.
In the Garden
'Jotunheim' reaches a mature spread of 50 inches (127.0 cm) and height of 36 inches (91.4 cm), with individual leaves measuring 12 inches (30.5 cm) long by 10 inches (25.4 cm) wide. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-leaved hostas, and its substantial size makes it suitable as a specimen or background plant in larger borders. The intense silvery-blue patina endures well into the growing season, providing sustained color contrast against green or gold foliage companions.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during establishment, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are recommended for this large-leaved cultivar.
