Overview
Registered in 2003, *Hosta* 'Ice Palace' is a medium-sized cultivar of unknown pollen parentage, with *H.* 'Buckeye Blue' as its seed parent. It is visually distinctive for its intensely blue-green, heavily cobbled (seersuckered) leaves that form a dense, mound-like clump.
In the Garden
'Ice Palace' performs best in partial to full shade, where its blue leaf color is most pronounced. Mature plants reach approximately 15 inches (38 cm) in height and 40 inches (102 cm) in diameter, making it suitable for mid-border positions or as a specimen in woodland gardens. Its broad, heavily textured leaves pair well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as the thick, textured leaves may be less palatable but are not immune to browsing.
