Overview
Registered in 2011 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Surf's Up', this medium-sized cultivar is visually distinctive for its unusually narrow, dark blue-green leaf center surrounded by a wide, medium golden yellow margin. The leaf coloration presents as a very narrow green central streak with a broad, somewhat irregular gold border, creating a striking variegation pattern.
In the Garden
'Hit or Miss' forms a moderate-growing, mound-like clump reaching approximately 18 inches (45.7 cm) in height and 36 inches (91.4 cm) in diameter at maturity. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, where the gold margins hold their color without scorching. The ovate leaves with cordate bases and slight waviness pair well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials; its medium size makes it suitable for border fronts or woodland garden placements.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, particularly during dry periods. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as with most hostas.
