Registered in 2010 by R. Kuenster, *Hosta* 'Gunther' is a large cultivar notable for its nearly round, blue-green leaves with pale yellow margins and a distinctive streaked pattern. The leaf surface carries a glaucous bloom on both sides, with moderate puckering and corrugation at maturity.

In the Garden

This cultivar forms a mound 14 inches (35.6 cm) tall and 32 inches (81.3 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of hosta-growing zones, where the blue-green leaf color and gold margins develop most clearly. The substantial leaf size and rounded form make it suitable as a specimen or in mixed shade borders with ferns and heucheras.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during dry periods; apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable for young plants.
