Overview
Registered in 2010, *Hosta* 'Cosmic Sensation' is a giant-sized cultivar resulting from the cross (*H.* 'Fudge Ripple' × *H.* 'Cosmic Hippie') pollinated by *H.* 'Geneva Remembrance'. It is visually distinguished by its very large, nearly round, medium green leaves with flat margins that are streaked greenish yellow to creamy white, combined with a lightly cupped and moderately corrugated texture.
In the Garden
With a mature spread of 44 inches (111.8 cm) and height of 28 inches (71.1 cm), 'Cosmic Sensation' forms a dense, mound-like clump at a moderate growth rate. It is best sited in partial to dappled shade, typical for hostas, where its substantial foliage can develop without scorch. Its large, rounded leaves make it a suitable specimen or accent plant in the middle to back of a shaded border, pairing well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as the large, lush leaves are attractive to both pests.
