H. ‘Blissful’

Overview

Registered in 2004, *Hosta* 'Blissful' is a small-sized cultivar resulting from a cross between *H.* 'Neat Splash' and *H.* 'Dorset Blue'. It is visually distinctive for its blue-green leaves with creamy white margins, which occasionally streak into the leaf center, and its glaucous bloom on both leaf surfaces.

In the Garden

'Blissful' forms a compact, mound-like clump reaching 12 inches (30.5 cm) in height and 32 inches (81.3 cm) in diameter, with a medium-fast growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-leaved hostas, and its small size makes it suitable for rock gardens, front-of-border placements, or container cultivation. Companion plants such as ferns, heucheras, or small shade-tolerant perennials complement its muted blue-green and white coloration.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Blissful' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
