Overview

Registered in 2016, *Hosta* 'Big B' is a giant blue-green cultivar of unknown pollen parentage, with *H.* 'Blue Umbrellas' as its pod parent. It is visually distinctive for its nearly round, heavily corrugated leaves that are deeply folded and held upright, with a slightly shiny upper surface and a glaucous bloom beneath.

In the Garden

'Big B' reaches a mature size of 24 inches (61 cm) in height and 30 inches (76.2 cm) in diameter, with individual leaves measuring 12 inches (30.5 cm) in both length and width. Its upright, fast-growing habit and large, textured foliage make it suitable as a specimen plant or as part of a mixed border in partial to full shade, typical of hosta-growing zones. The substantial leaf mass pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials that contrast in form or color.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. While 'Big B' shows no exceptional resistance, standard precautions against slugs and deer are advisable in areas where these pests are prevalent.
