Overview
Registered in 1999 from the cross of *Hosta* 'Butternut Hill' and *Hosta* 'Chartreuse Wedge', 'Green Dragonet' is a giant, upright-growing variegated hosta. Its most distinctive features are the very shiny, dark green leaves with slightly rippled margins and a cordate base, combined with its substantial stature.
In the Garden
'Green Dragonet' reaches a mature spread of 106 inches (269.2 cm) and a height of 47 inches (119.4 cm), making it suitable as a bold specimen or focal point in larger borders and woodland gardens. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of hosta-growing zones, and pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials that contrast its large, glossy foliage. Due to its slow growth rate and giant size, it is not suited for containers.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. The thick, shiny leaves offer some resistance to slugs, but standard slug control measures are advisable in damp conditions; deer may browse the foliage.
