Overview

Registered in 2016, *Hosta* 'Champ' is a giant sport of *Hosta* 'Sagae' (pod parent) crossed with *Hosta* 'Sea Gulf Stream' (pollen parent). This cultivar is visually distinctive for its upright, substantial mound of blue-green leaves with a glaucous bloom on both surfaces and medium green, slightly rippled margins.

In the Garden

'Hamp' reaches 30 inches (76.2 cm) in height and spreads to 56 inches (142.2 cm) in diameter, making it suitable as a bold specimen or focal point in partial to full shade. Its large, ovate leaves with cordate bases and lightly wavy margins pair well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials. The upright habit and fast growth rate allow it to fill space quickly in woodland gardens or mixed borders.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during establishment, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. While typical hosta-growing zones apply, the glaucous bloom may be less pronounced in full sun; slug and deer damage should be monitored as with most large-leaved hostas.
