Overview

Registered in 1995 by J. & J. Wilkins, *Hosta* 'Wolverine' is a medium-sized sport of a seedling from *H.* 'Splash' F5 crossed with *H.* 'Dorset Blue'. Its visual distinction lies in the combination of blue-green leaves with wide, yellow-gold margins that are slightly rippled, and a glaucous bloom on the leaf undersides.

In the Garden

'Wolverine' forms a fast-growing, mound-like clump reaching 38 inches (96.5 cm) in diameter and 15 inches (38.1 cm) in height. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-leaved hostas, and is suitable for borders, woodland gardens, or as a specimen in mixed shade plantings. Its medium size and rounded leaf shape allow pairing with ferns, heucheras, or other shade perennials.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as with most hostas.
