Overview

A sport of *Hosta* 'Surprise' registered in 2012, 'Winning Colors' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its blue-green leaves with golden yellow to light chartreuse margins that transition to medium green. The leaves are broadly ovate with cordate bases, slightly rippled margins, and a dull upper surface with glaucous bloom beneath.

In the Garden

'Winning Colors' forms a symmetrical, layered mound reaching 18 inches (45.7 cm) in height and 36 inches (91.4 cm) in diameter with a fast growth rate. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, typical of most hostas, and its medium size makes it suitable for mid-border positions or as a specimen in shade gardens. The fragrant flowers appear on green scapes 30 to 36 inches (76.2 to 91.4 cm) tall in midsummer.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during establishment and throughout the growing season, particularly in warmer climates. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it may be susceptible to slug and deer damage in garden settings.
