H. ‘Violetta’

Overview

Registered in 2006 by P. Ruh, this medium-sized hosta is distinguished by a pronounced violet cast that permeates the entire plant, including the leaf bases and scape. Its variegated foliage features dark green, slightly rippled margins with a very shiny upper surface and a lightly folded, lightly corrugated texture.

In the Garden

'Hosta Violetta' forms an upright clump reaching 16.5 inches (41.9 cm) in height and 28 inches (71.1 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for hostas, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its medium size makes it suitable for border fronts, woodland gardens, or shaded containers.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as the foliage may be susceptible to these pests in shaded garden settings.
