Overview
Registered in 2016, *Hosta* 'Galetta' is a medium-sized cultivar resulting from a cross between *H. 'Galaxy'* (pod parent) and *H. 'Violetta'* (pollen parent). It is visually distinctive for its broadly ovate, moderately cupped leaves that are green with white margins and irregular white and yellow streaks, forming an open mound described as resembling ice cornets.
In the Garden
'Galetta' reaches a mature height of approximately 19.3 inches (49.0 cm) with a spread of 23.6 inches (60.0 cm), and its upright growth habit and moderate growth rate suit it for mid-border positions or as a specimen in partial to full shade. The leaf surface is dull on both sides, providing subtle texture, and the grey-green scapes rise 32.7 to 37.0 inches (83.1 to 94.0 cm) above the foliage. It performs best in typical hosta-growing zones with well-drained soil and is suitable for mixed shade borders or woodland gardens.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Galetta' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so appropriate deterrents may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
