Overview

Registered in 2008, *Hosta* 'Valley's Glacier' is a sport of *Hosta* 'First Frost' distinguished by its intensely blue-green leaves with broad, flat, yellow margins that transition to white as the season progresses. This medium-sized cultivar forms a dense, mound-like clump reaching approximately 36 inches (91 cm) in diameter and 16 inches (40 cm) in height.

In the Garden

'Valley's Glacier' performs best in partial to full shade, where its blue-green foliage and light-margined leaves provide contrast against darker or solid-green hostas. Its moderate growth rate and compact mound make it suitable for border fronts, woodland gardens, or as a specimen in shaded beds. The broad leaves and substantial clump size allow pairing with ferns, heucheras, or smaller shade perennials without overwhelming them.

Care Notes

Water regularly during dry periods, particularly in the first growing season, and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Valley's Glacier' is susceptible to slug and deer damage in typical hosta-growing zones; slug control measures may be necessary in moist conditions.
