Overview

Registered in 2003 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Invincible', 'Sugar and Spice' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its very glossy, ovate leaves with medium to dark green centers and narrow, creamy white, slightly rippled margins. The leaf surface is notably shiny on both the upper and lower sides, and the plant forms a dense, mound-like clump.

In the Garden

'Sugar and Spice' reaches approximately 20 inches (50.8 cm) in height and spreads to 48 inches (121.9 cm) in diameter, making it a substantial groundcover for partial to full shade. Its glossy foliage pairs well with finer-textured shade perennials such as ferns, *Heuchera*, or *Tiarella*. The plant is well-suited to border fronts, woodland gardens, or as a specimen in shaded beds.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, protect from slugs and deer, which may damage the glossy leaves.
