Registered in 1997, *Hosta* 'Space Odyssey' is a giant cultivar of unknown parentage, distinguished by its intensely blue-green, heavily rippled leaves that form a substantial mound. The foliage is slightly shiny on the upper surface and dull beneath, with cordate leaf bases and 16 pairs of veins per leaf.

In the Garden

This cultivar reaches 84 inches (213.4 cm) in diameter and 36 inches (91.4 cm) in height, with a moderate growth rate and a mound-like habit. It performs best in partial to full shade, as typical for blue-leaved hostas, and pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials that complement its large scale. Its substantial size makes it suitable as a specimen plant or as a backdrop in woodland borders.
