Overview
Registered in 2002, *Hosta* 'Sizzler' is a large, upright cultivar of unknown pollen parentage, derived from a first-generation seedling of *H.* 'Sea Prize'. It is visually distinctive for its blue-green leaves with heavily rippled, gold margins and unstable streaking throughout in shades of medium green, light green, blue-green, greenish yellow, and yellow.
In the Garden
Reaching 28 inches (71.1 cm) in height and 21 inches (53.3 cm) in diameter, 'Sizzler' is well-suited to partial to full shade in typical hosta-growing zones. Its moderate growth rate and upright habit make it effective as a specimen or in mixed shade borders, where its variegated foliage provides contrast against darker-leaved perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera*.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with many hostas, slug and deer damage may occur; monitor and manage as needed.
