Overview
Registered in 2002, *Hosta* 'American Tisch Breeder' is a large sport of a 'Tokudama' seedling (Tish #3-4) notable for its unstable, streaked foliage. The leaves are medium blue-green with gold margins and irregular streaks of dark green, light green, greenish yellow, yellow, and cream, creating a variegated pattern that varies from leaf to leaf.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms an upright, moderate-growing clump reaching 21 inches (53.3 cm) in height and 47 inches (119.4 cm) in diameter. The broadly ovate, deeply corrugated leaves are moderately cupped with slightly rippled margins and a glaucous bloom on the undersides. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the blue-green tones are most pronounced, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its large size makes it suitable as a specimen or in the middle to back of a shaded border.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. Like most hostas, it may require protection from slugs and deer in garden settings.
