Year registered2015
Section classV-1 (Miniature)

Overview

Registered in 2015, this miniature cultivar resulted from a cross between *Hosta* 'Blue Moon' (pod parent) and a self-cross of *Hosta* 'Heavy Duty'. 'Pete's Slon-he' is distinguished by its extremely thick, nearly round leaves with short petioles, medium green margins, and a compact, mound-like habit reaching only 7.25 inches (18.4 cm) in diameter and 3.125 inches (7.9 cm) in height.

In the Garden

With its slow growth rate and diminutive stature, 'Pete's Slon-he' is well-suited for rock gardens, troughs, or the front edge of a shaded border. It performs best in partial to full shade, where its thick leaves resist scorching. The plant's small size makes it an excellent candidate for container cultivation, and it pairs effectively with other miniature hostas or small shade perennials such as *Tiarella* or *Heucherella*.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, as the shallow root system of miniature hostas dries quickly. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage foliage, though the unusually thick leaves offer some resistance compared to thinner-leaved cultivars.
