Overview
Registered in 2014 as an open-pollinated seedling of *Hosta* 'Little Jim', 'Marlu's Elliot' is a miniature cultivar distinguished by its small, variegated leaves with medium green, slightly rippled margins and a dull upper surface. The plant forms a compact, mound-like habit reaching 5 inches (12.7 cm) in height and 12 inches (30.5 cm) in diameter, with elliptic leaves 3 inches (7.6 cm) long and 1 inch (2.5 cm) wide bearing three pairs of veins.
In the Garden
This miniature hosta is well suited to shaded or partially shaded positions in the border, rock garden, or container, where its small scale and moderate growth rate allow it to remain unobtrusive. Its compact dimensions—approximately 12 inches across and 5 inches tall—make it an excellent choice for troughs, fairy gardens, or the front edge of a woodland planting, where it pairs naturally with other small perennials such as *Heuchera* or *Tiarella*. The moderately twisted leaves and rippled margins provide textural interest at close range.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, applying a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, protect from slug and deer damage in typical hosta-growing zones.
