Overview

Registered in 2015, *Hosta* 'One and Only' is a large cultivar of unknown pollen parentage, with *H.* 'Zany Janie' as the pod parent. It is visually distinctive for its broad, green leaves with pale yellow flat margins, forming a dense mound.

In the Garden

'One and Only' reaches a mature size of 23 inches (58.4 cm) in height and 28 inches (71.1 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and its large, broadly ovate leaves with cordate bases make it suitable as a specimen or in mixed shade borders. Companion plants such as ferns, heucheras, or shade-tolerant grasses complement its mound-like habit.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with many large-leaved hostas, monitor for slug and deer damage; standard control measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
