Overview
Registered in 2014 by E. Schulz, *Hosta* 'Gold Wing' is a large, mound-forming cultivar of unknown parentage. It is visually distinctive for its blue-green leaves with greenish-yellow, flat margins and a glaucous bloom on the undersides.
In the Garden
'Gold Wing' is suitable for partial to full shade in typical hosta-growing zones. At maturity, it forms a mound 17 inches (43.2 cm) tall and 35 inches (88.9 cm) in diameter, with leaves 12 inches (30.5 cm) long and 8 inches (20.3 cm) wide. Its moderate growth rate and broad, cupped foliage make it effective as a specimen or in mixed shade borders alongside ferns, heucheras, or other hostas with contrasting leaf shapes.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods to maintain consistent soil moisture; fertilize in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage foliage, so monitoring and protective measures are advisable.
