Overview
Registered in 2015 by an unknown hybridizer, *Hosta* 'Banana Pepper' is a large, upright cultivar distinguished by its blue-green leaves with greenish-yellow, slightly rippled margins. The broadly ovate, moderately cupped foliage is lightly folded and wavy, with a glaucous bloom on the undersides and a slightly shiny upper surface.
In the Garden
'Banana Pepper' reaches a mature spread of 34 inches (86.4 cm) and a height of 19 inches (48.3 cm), with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-leaved hostas, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade perennials. Its upright habit and moderate size make it suitable for mid-border positions or as a specimen in woodland gardens.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during dry periods and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor accordingly.
