H. ‘Nefertiti’

Overview

Registered in 2003 as a sport of *Hosta* 'King Tut', 'Nefertiti' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its blue-green leaves with broad, dark green, flat margins. The leaf surface is dull above with a glaucous bloom beneath, and the broadly ovate, lightly corrugated blades have a cordate base.

In the Garden

This cultivar forms a mound-like clump reaching 20 inches (50.8 cm) in height and 36 inches (91.4 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for blue-leaved hostas, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its medium size makes it suitable for mid-border positions or as a specimen in shaded beds.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many hostas, 'Nefertiti' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so appropriate deterrents may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
