H. ‘My Romance’

Overview

Registered in 2010, *Hosta* 'My Romance' is a small-sized cultivar of unknown pollen parentage, with *H.* 'Zany Janie' as the pod parent. Its most distinctive feature is a broad, pure white margin approximately 1 inch (2.5 cm) wide against a medium green leaf center, creating a crisp bicolor effect.

In the Garden

'My Romance' forms a compact, mound-like clump reaching 10 inches (25.4 cm) in height and 14 inches (35.6 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. Its nearly round, flat leaves with cordate bases and dull surfaces on both sides make it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container culture. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of hosta-growing zones, and pairs well with other small hostas, ferns, or shade-tolerant groundcovers.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. The thick, white-margined leaves may be less palatable to deer and slugs than all-green varieties, though monitoring is still advised.
