Overview

Registered in 2008, *Hosta* 'My Mom' is a medium-sized cultivar resulting from a cross between *H. 'Dorothy Benedict'* (pod parent) and *H. 'Fudge Ripple'* (pollen parent). It is visually distinctive for its dark green leaves with streaked yellow, slightly rippled gold margins, broadly ovate shape with cordate bases, and moderate corrugation.

In the Garden

'My Mom' forms a slow-growing, mound-like clump reaching 18 inches (45.7 cm) in height and 32 inches (81.3 cm) in diameter, with scapes rising 24 to 30 inches (61.0 to 76.2 cm). It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and its medium size suits it for mid-border positions or as a specimen in shaded beds. Its fertile nature makes it useful for breeding programs, and it pairs well with other shade-tolerant perennials such as ferns or astilbes.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during dry periods, especially in warmer climates, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. Standard slug and deer deterrents may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
