Overview

Registered in 2015, *Hosta* 'So Nice' is a medium-sized cultivar of unknown parentage (pollen parent unknown) derived from *H.* 'Hearts and Flowers'. It is visually distinguished by its green leaves with gold margins, which emerge with pale yellow streaking in the center before maturing to medium green, and by its lance-shaped, lightly wavy foliage with good substance and form.

In the Garden

'So Nice' forms a dense, mound-like clump reaching 14 inches (35.6 cm) in height and 27 inches (68.6 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and pairs well with other shade-tolerant perennials such as ferns, heucheras, or astilbes. Its medium size makes it suitable for border fronts, woodland gardens, or as a specimen in shaded beds, though it is not typically recommended for containers due to its spreading habit.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it may be susceptible to slug and deer damage, so monitor and protect accordingly in areas where these pests are prevalent.
