Overview
Registered in 2011, *Hosta* 'Cosmic Spotted Cow' is a large-sized cultivar resulting from a cross between *Hosta* 'Cosmic Hippie' (pod parent) and *Hosta* 'My Mom' (pollen parent). It is visually distinctive for its broadly ovate, corrugated green leaves with slightly rippled margins that are streaked with greenish white, creamy white, and pure white, giving a variegated appearance.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms a mound-like clump reaching 32 inches (81.3 cm) in diameter and 18 inches (45.7 cm) in height, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, as typical for hostas, and its large, textured leaves provide strong visual contrast when paired with finer-textured shade perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera*. Its substantial size makes it suitable as a specimen or mid-border plant in woodland gardens.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard precautions against slugs and deer are recommended, as both may damage the foliage.
