Overview
Registered in 2011 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Indigo', 'Monet' is a small hosta distinguished by its blue-green leaves with contrasting gold margins. The leaf blade is chartreuse with a flat, intensely blue-green margin approximately 0.5 inches (1.3 cm) wide, and both surfaces bear a glaucous bloom.
In the Garden
'Monet' forms a compact, slow-growing mound reaching 10 inches (25.4 cm) in height and 20 inches (50.8 cm) in diameter. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and is well suited to rock gardens, troughs, or the front of shaded borders. Its small stature makes it an appropriate companion for other small perennials such as *Heuchera* or *Tiarella*, and it is suitable for container culture.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Monet' is susceptible to slug and deer damage and may require protective measures in areas where these pests are prevalent.
