H. ‘Firestorm’

Hosta ‘Firestorm’ is a registered cultivar () .

Year registered2007
Section classIV-6a

Overview

Registered in 2007 as a sport of an unspecified parent, *Hosta* 'Firestorm' is a small-sized cultivar distinguished by its dramatic color transition: emerging green in spring, the leaves develop into an intense gold with a medium green, slightly rippled margin. The blue-green base color noted in the registry refers to the mature leaf surface, which bears a glaucous bloom on both sides.

In the Garden

'Firestorm' forms a dense, mound-like clump reaching 18 inches (45.7 cm) in height and 25 inches (63.5 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. Its ovate leaves, 5 inches (12.7 cm) long and 3 inches (7.6 cm) wide, have cordate bases and are lightly folded and wavy. As a small hosta, it is well suited to the front of borders, rock gardens, or container culture. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and pairs effectively with finer-textured shade perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera*.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Firestorm' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so appropriate deterrents may be necessary in problem areas.
