Overview
Registered in 1984 by R. Savory, this small blue-green hosta originated as a hybrid of *H.* 'Halcyon'. Its most distinctive features are steel blue-gray leaves with gentle undulating margins and cordate bases, producing a compact mound of dense foliage.
In the Garden
'Hosta 'Indigo' reaches a mature diameter of 15 inches (38.1 cm) and a height of 8 inches (20.3 cm), making it suitable for the front of borders or rock gardens. It performs best in partial to full shade, where its blue coloration remains most intense. Companion plants include ferns, heucheras, and other small hostas; it is also well-suited to container cultivation due to its compact size.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods, applying moisture at soil level to avoid leaf spotting. Fertilize in early spring with a balanced slow-release formula; slug and deer damage may occur in typical hosta-growing zones.
