Overview

A sport of *Hosta* 'Trails End' registered in 2003 by P. & J. Ruh, 'Mayville' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its blue-green leaf margins that notch inward into the gold leaf center. The leaves are ovate with flat bases, lightly folded and corrugated, and bear 10 prominent vein pairs; the yellow-green scape reaches 27 inches (68.6 cm) in height.

In the Garden

'Mayville' forms an upright clump 18 inches (45.7 cm) tall and 24 inches (61.0 cm) wide, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for blue-green hostas, and is suitable for mid-border positions or as a specimen in woodland gardens. Its medium size and bold leaf coloration make it an effective contrast alongside finer-textured shade perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera*.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable for this cultivar in typical hosta-growing zones.
