Overview

Registered in 2015, *Hosta* 'Marine' is a sport of *H.* 'Minute Man' distinguished by its blue-green leaves with creamy white margins and very dark green striping. This small, slow-growing cultivar forms an upright mound reaching 9 inches (22.9 cm) in height and 17 inches (43.2 cm) in diameter.

In the Garden

'Marine' performs best in partial to full shade, where its blue-green leaf centers and white margins remain most vivid. Its compact size makes it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings. Companion plants such as ferns, heucheras, or small shade-tolerant perennials complement its restrained habit.

Care Notes

Water regularly during dry periods, particularly in the first growing season. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Marine' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so appropriate deterrents may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
