Overview

Registered in 2003, 'Lighthouse' is a giant hosta cultivar derived from an F-1 seedling. It is visually distinctive for its large, blue-green leaves with broad, yellow-lime margins and a slightly shiny upper surface with a glaucous bloom beneath.

In the Garden

'Lighthouse' reaches a mature size of approximately 30 inches (76.2 cm) in diameter and 29 inches (73.7 cm) in height, with an upright growth habit and moderate growth rate. Its substantial leaf substance and heavy texture make it suitable for partially shaded borders or as a specimen plant in typical hosta-growing zones. The large, broadly ovate leaves with cordate bases and moderate corrugation pair well with ferns, astilbes, or other shade-tolerant perennials.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. The heavy leaf substance offers some resistance to slugs, though standard slug control measures may still be warranted in damp conditions.
