Overview
Registered in 1998, *Hosta* 'Lakeside Masterpiece' is a large cultivar resulting from a cross between *Hosta* BSR 3-21-2 (pod parent) and *Hosta* 'Big Daddy' (pollen parent). It is visually distinctive for its intensely blue-green leaves with wide, creamy white margins, forming a substantial mound of foliage.
In the Garden
This cultivar reaches a mature diameter of 36 inches (91.4 cm) and a height of 14 inches (35.6 cm), with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for blue-leaved hostas, where the blue-green coloration is most pronounced. Its large size makes it suitable as a specimen plant or for the middle to back of a shaded border; it pairs well with ferns and other shade-tolerant perennials.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many large-leaved hostas, it is susceptible to slug damage and may require protection in damp conditions; deer also find it palatable.
