Registered in 1999, 'Lakeside Legal Tender' is a small hosta cultivar of unknown parentage, derived from two unnamed seedlings. It is visually distinctive for its blue-green leaf centers bordered by wide, golden yellow margins, a color combination that provides strong contrast on a compact plant.

In the Garden

This cultivar reaches a mature height of 9 inches (22.9 cm) with a spread of 2.4 inches (6.1 cm), forming a low, mound-like habit. Its small size and moderate growth rate make it well suited for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of a shaded border. It pairs effectively with other small hostas or fine-textured shade perennials such as ferns and heucheras. 'Lakeside Legal Tender' performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for blue-leaved hostas, and is suitable for container cultivation.
