Registered in 2000, *Hosta* 'Lakeside Breaking News' is a large cultivar resulting from a cross between *H.* 'LBSR' and *H. hypoleuca*. It is visually distinctive for its broad blue-green leaves with wide, heavily rippled white margins and a glaucous bloom on the undersides.

In the Garden

This cultivar forms a moderate-growing mound reaching 36 inches (91.4 cm) in diameter and 15 inches (38.1 cm) in height, making it suitable as a specimen or mid-border accent in partial to full shade. Its large, textured leaves pair well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Given its substantial size, it is not recommended for container cultivation.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, particularly during dry periods. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
