Overview

Registered in 2000 as a sport of an unnamed parent, *Hosta* 'Christmas Pageant' is a large, mound-forming cultivar distinguished by its dark green leaves with broad, creamy white margins. The leaf blades measure 10 inches (25.4 cm) long and 9.75 inches (24.8 cm) wide, with flat, 2-inch-wide margins and 8 to 10 pairs of veins.

In the Garden

'Christmas Pageant' reaches a mature spread of 36 inches (91.4 cm) and a height of 20 inches (50.8 cm), with scapes rising 18 to 24 inches (45.7 to 61.0 cm). It performs best in partial to full shade, where the variegation remains stable, and is suitable for borders, woodland gardens, or as a groundcover in typical hosta-growing zones. Its moderate growth rate and substantial size make it effective paired with ferns or other shade-tolerant perennials.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor and manage as needed.
